Recognizing the importance of friendship among women of any age, Kappa Delta created, in 1999, National Women’s Friendship Day. This holiday has been celebrated by both KDs and non-KDs alike on college campuses and in communities across the country. Women send cards, get together for dinner, plan girls’ nights out and collect donated items for women in need. Following the 10th anniversary of National Women’s Friendship Day in 2008, it became apparent that one day just wasn’t enough, so the celebration was expanded to the entire month of September beginning in 2009. Now known as National Women’s Friendship Month, the celebration offers all women the opportunity to remember their special friends. Every year, more and more women hear about the celebration. The day has been covered in numerous newspapers and magazines, and on television and radio. Businesses like Avon’s mark cosmetics, General Foods International, Maidenform, Teleflora, Women for Hire, Karen Neuburger, LTD., Suzy’s Zoo, Seasons Sentiments, Sally Lanes, Vera Bradley and b.sweet, as well as organizations like the Junior League of Cincinnati, American Medical Women’s Association and MOMs Clubs support National Women’s Friendship Month. To date, 34 governors have signed proclamations endorsing women’s friendship.
We encourage you to join the celebration!
