National Convention is more than meeting sisters from all points of the compass or applauding your chapter as you win a coveted award. It’s an important meeting where the voting convention delegates — the supreme governing body of the sorority — transact the business of Kappa Delta. They vote on changes in the bylaws, adopt resolutions and policies, and elect the members of the National Council.
Conventions are held every two years at hotels and resorts in various parts of the country. Sites vary from one coast to the other, and sometimes in between, to enable sisters from nearby locales to attend economically. They are planned by the national headquarters staff and the National Council.
Each chapter and alumnae association may send one voting delegate to the convention; all other Kappa Deltas are encouraged to attend as visitors. Some collegians attend convention as pages and assist
in event implementation.
National Convention 2009 is June 27 – July 1 at Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel in Orlando, Florida. The award-winning Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin is located in the heart of the Walt Disney World® Resort between Epcot® and Disney-MGM Studios and nearby Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park and Magic Kingdom® Park. The Orlando International Airport is approximately 20 minutes away from the Swan and Dolphin Hotel.

National Leadership Conference
National Leadership Conference is a biennial event that gives all chapter members, chapter advisory board members and house corporation officers the opportunity to learn valuable leadership skills and get the latest information on new programs initiated by the sorority. NLC offers a forum for you to meet other KDs from across the country, share ideas, and learn ways to make your chapter even better. This much-anticipated summer conference consists of engaging speakers and fun and impressive programming that inspire you lead with KD pride.
Presidents and Emerging Leaders Conference
In 2002, Kappa Delta inaugurated its annual Presidents and Emerging Leaders Conference — the place where “extraordinary achievers succeed!” This experience is designed to help attendees develop the skills necessary for successful chapter leadership, from creating a vision to working with the chapter council and much more.
Each year, Kappa Delta Sorority provides a unique leadership training opportunity to all chapter presidents, one "emerging leader" from each chapter, and a member of the chapter advisory board. The emerging leader is chosen as a chapter member who shows potential for future leadership in the sorority and is not presently sitting on council. Candidates possess attributes such as campus involvement, high academic achievement, and leadership capabilities.
The 2009 PELC will take place January 30 - February 1, 2009, at Whispering Woods Hotel and Conference Center, in Olive Branch, Miss.
Excellence Expeditions
Excellence Expeditions are an exciting part of Kappa Delta's leadership education. Attending one is an experience like no other. This weekend-long regional workshop, led by members of the National Council and other National Officer faculty, is offered for selected collegians and chapter advisory board members. Kappa Delta's Excellence Expedition is a weekend of educational opportunities that will enable attendees to set attainable goals for their chapters. They'll gain experience in goal-setting, action-planning and follow-through, and learn strategies and tactics in such areas as leadership development, membership recruitment and retention and enhancement of positive chapter visibility. These regional weekend conferences are offered every year in varying locales around the country. Chapters may or may not be invited to attend based upon the chapter's proximity to the Excellence Expedition location.
The purpose of the Excellence Expedition is to help chapters turn their dreams and aspirations into reality. On the Expedition, KD sisters will focus on the basics of sound chapter management – effective chapter leadership, a quality membership and recruitment program and positive campus prestige. Those who attend gain expertise in goal-setting and learn strategies and tactics that really work. Find out how to get the chapter excited and ready for success. Best of all, attendees return to their chapter with a practical plan in hand.
Chapters that are invited to attend are requested to send the chapter VP-membership, VP-operations and VP-public relations. (If any of these officers has an unavoidable conflict, her space will be filled, with permission of the CPP, by another council officer or by a younger chapter member who is deemed to have strong council potential.) A member of the CAB of each chapter is also invited to attend. Due to the Presidents and Emerging Leaders Conference in February, presidents are not obligated to attend. Other chapter officers, including the president and additional CAB members, are welcome to attend for the full price of the event. Please call the national headquarters if you plan to send more than the required officers.
Dates for the 2009 Excellence Expeditions will be announced soon.
